Mount Clemens Historic Properties Now Online

One of the frequently asked questions in the library's local history and genealogy department is how to find the history of a house or property in Mount Clemens.  The process for this type of research can be very time consuming and frustrating, so the library has joined forces with Rochester-Avon Historical Society to provide a solution.

Faced with a similar need to provide this type of service, the Rochester-Avon Historical Society launched an online database to make property histories and vintage photographs of buildings and structures available for the communities of Oakland County.  RAHS quickly realized the need to make the new tool regional in scope and invite communities in the tri-county area to add their own
data.  Mount Clemens Public Library is proud to be the first Macomb County participant in this effort and has undertaken the task of entering data for Mount Clemens properties into the database.

This site brings together all of the relevant sources that are needed to outline the history of a property, including deed and mortgage records, probate records, city directories, federal census records, newspaper accounts, local vital records and obituaries.  When historic photos of the property are available, they are also made part of the record.

Users may search the database in several ways: by browsing a Google map, by property tax ID number, street address, historic name, or by architectural style.  Properties that contain a building or structure that is at least 75 years old are eligible to be included, as are monuments and memorials of any age.  The development of the Mount Clemens section of the database is ongoing and the library will continue to load more content on a regular basis.
