Mount Clemens Public Library has received a donation of a significant collection of historical records, spanning nearly a century of Macomb County history, from the Clinton Grove Cemetery Association Board of Trustees.

The collection comprises the business records of the Hubbard Funeral Home of Mount Clemens, which operated from 1875 to 1971. The funeral home was founded by William Burton Hubbard and was continued by his son, Duncan Burton Hubbard, until the latter's death in 1971.

"The Hubbard Funeral Home collection represents a treasure-trove of local history and genealogical data," said Donald E. Worrell, Jr., Director of Mount Clemens Public Library. "This gift adds an invaluable resource for the many researchers that the library serves from locations all over the country, and we are pleased that the Clinton Grove Cemetery Association has seen fit to entrust it to our care."

The Board of Trustees of the Clinton Grove Cemetery Association donated the collection to the public library to help historical and genealogical researchers access a valuable chronicle of Mount Clemens and Macomb County history. The library will be able to provide greater access to the records through its longer public service hours and an online index to the data which will be developed by staff and volunteer research assistants during the coming months. The index to the Hubbard records will eventually be available online from the library's web site at

Mount Clemens Public Library is the oldest public library in Macomb County and one of the oldest in Michigan, having been established in 1865. The library's local history and genealogy collection was founded in the 1950s and has grown to be one of the most extensive collections in suburban Detroit.

Clinton Grove Cemetery was established in 1855 and is Macomb County's oldest operating cemetery. With new and innovative interment options, a state of the art genealogy section on its web site, and a host of upcoming events including "A Walk Into the Past" on August 24 at 1 p.m., Clinton Grove is not only an important part of history, but continues to make history every day.  For more information about the cemetery, visit
