In Memory of Kenneth King

We are sad to report the passing, yesterday evening, of former library director Kenneth King. After a long and successful career at Detroit Public Library, Mr. King succeeded Miriam Altman as director of Mount Clemens Public Library in 1973. He served as director for 12 years, retiring in August 1985.

During his tenure as library director, Mr. King was known for his dedication to improving the quality of life in Mount Clemens through his participation in many civic organizations. Among the local organizations that benefited from Mr. King's leadership and contributions were Mount Clemens Rotary Club, Mount Clemens Beautification Committee, Mount Clemens Regional Arts Council, the Bright Future for Mount Clemens Committee, Macomb County Historical Society and the Mount Clemens Business Association.  In 1976, he was recognized by his professional peers when he was named Librarian of the Year by the Michigan Library Association.

He will be fondly remembered by long-time library friends and former staff.
