Library Presents Legendary Locals of Mount Clemens

On June 11, Arcadia Publishing will issue a new book written by library assistant director Deborah Larsen, entitled Legendary Locals of Mount Clemens. This volume is part of a new series that is being introduced by Arcadia, the nation’s largest commercial publisher of local history books. The Legendary Locals series focuses exclusively on the stories of the people of a community—rather than upon buildings, events, or dates.

Legendary Locals of Mount Clemens  features a sampling of the founders and builders, innovators and cheerleaders, educators, writers, business leaders, entertainers, athletes, and heroes—past and present—who populate the pages of Mount Clemens' history. Included are those who were fearless enough to be first—first to settle the community, first to lead, or first to break racial, gender, cultural, or economic barriers. Also told are the stories of those who built and bettered the community through selfless service in charitable, philanthropic, or educational endeavors, as well as those of the business and professional leaders who built the town’s economic engine. Profiles of the entertainers, athletes, and performing artists who called Mount Clemens home will be featured, along with innovators and eccentrics and even a couple of notorious personages who add their own peculiar brand of warp and weft to our local historical tapestry.

Finally, Legendary Locals of Mount Clemens  chronicles the stories of the community’s hometown heroes, including soldiers, police officers, and fire fighters who took risks on behalf of their fellow citizens and in some cases, lost their lives in the line of duty.

A special book launch program will be held at the library on Thursday, June 14 at 12:00 p.m., including an illustrated presentation of some of the stories featured in the book.  Copies will be available for purchase and signing following the program.  All author proceeds will benefit Mount Clemens Public Library.  The program will be repeated on Thursday, June 21 at 7:00 p.m. for those who are unable to attend the daytime event.

Any chance the Hubbard family will be featured - especially Euphemia?
