The library is pleased to announce that Joshua Mills is the Division I winner of the 2009 Elizabeth Blay Maison Schelling Local History Writing Contest. Our independent panel of judges selected Joshua's essay, entitled "Rock of Gibraltar," from among those submitted by middle school students.
Joshua is twelve years old and is in the seventh grade at Mount Clemens Junior High School. His essay discusses the landmark sign at the Gibraltar Trade Center and the prior use of the location as the Mount Clemens Race Track and as an early harness racing track in the 1920s. Joshua received a certificate of achievement and a cash prize donated by Lorelei Maison Rockwell, who sponsors the essay contest in memory of her late mother, Elizabeth Blay Maison Schelling.
