Local History Writing Contest for Students

Students in grades 6-12 are reminded that the deadline for entering the Elizabeth Blay Maison Schelling Local History Writing Contest is Friday, October 30. The contest is open to students attending any public, private, parochial or home school within the boundaries of the Mount Clemens School District/Mount Clemens Public Library District. Division I is for students in grades 6-8, and Division II is for students in grades 9-12.
Essays must be no less than 500 and no more than 1000 words, and must discuss a person, event, place or building related to the history of Macomb County or one of its communities. Contestants are encouraged to use libraries and museums to conduct research. Essays must be submitted to the library by Friday, October 30. A three-judge panel will select one winning entry in each division, and the winners will each receive a $500 cash prize donated by Lorelei Maison Rockwell. Contestants must pick up an official contest flyer with complete rules and guidelines for submission at the library.

Our sponsor, Lorelei Maison Rockwell, has donated these prizes in memory of her mother, Elizabeth Blay Maison Schelling, whose photo is shown here.
