New Items in Our Media Download Center

We've just added a number of new audiobook releases to our Media Download Center! Library card holders may download these titles directly to their personal computers or mobile devices - no worrying about returning materials. Here's a sampling of our new titles:

Mount Clemens High School Yearbook Master Index Updated

The Library is pleased to announce that an update has been loaded for our Mount Clemens High School Yearbook Master Index. This index, created by genealogy volunteer Karen Harris, will eventually include all of the names listed in the MCHS yearbook collection. The latest update brings the index total to 14,358 records, and covers yearbooks through 1954.

Flags Lowered in Honor of Fallen Soldier

The library's flags are flying at half-staff today in honor of Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Benjamin P. Castiglione of Howell who died in Helmand province, Afghanistan, while on active duty supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

Petty Officer Castiglione, age 21, died September 3 from injuries sustained while supporting combat operations. He served as a Navy hospitalman, the Navy equivalent of an Army medic. He was assigned to the 2nd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Battalion.

Flags Lowered in Honor of September 11 Victims

In accord with an executive order issued by Governor Jennifer Granholm, the library's flags are flying at half-staff today in remembrance of those who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.

Governor Granholm encourages all citizens of Michigan to remember those who were impacted by this tragedy.
“Let each of us take a moment of silence to reflect on and remember the tragedy of September 11,” Granholm said. “In our reflections, let us honor the memories of the victims and heroes of that day and keep their loved ones in our thoughts and prayers. Let us also embrace our great patriotic spirit that continues to unify and strengthen our country.”

Flags Lowered in Honor of Fallen Soldier

The library's flags are flying at half-staff today in honor of Private First Class Eric W. Hario of Monroe who died August 29 in Paktika Province, Afghanistan, while on active duty supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

Pfc. Hario, age 19, died from injuries sustained from small arms fire on August 28 while conducting combat operations. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, Hunter Army Airfield, Georgia.

Library Closed for Labor Day Weekend

The library will be CLOSED from Saturday, September 5 through Monday, September 7 in observance of the Labor Day holiday weekend. Regular library hours will resume on Tuesday, September 8, and the library will return to its regular hours of service, as follows:

Monday through Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Friday and Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Sunday, 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. (beginning Sunday, September 13)

During the holiday weekend, the library's electronic services will still be available around the clock, including our online library catalog, media download center, and digital media archive. Drop boxes for the return of library materials will be open near the north (parking lot) library entrance and will be emptied by library staff during the holiday weekend.

Macomb Church Records Database Launched

Mount Clemens Public Library is pleased to announce the launch of a new database, the Macomb County Church Records Index. This index is being compiled by Adult Services Librarian Kristy Taormina, and will eventually serve as a master index to all of the available historical parish records available in the library's genealogy and local history collection. To date, index data for the early baptism records of Grace Episcopal Church of Mount Clemens and St. Peter Roman Catholic Church of Mount Clemens have been entered into the database. Entry of marriage records data from Grace Episcopal Church is now underway.
