The library is pleased to announce that the Suburban Library Cooperative's Digital Media Archive, in which we participate, has just topped 7,000 digital items on file!
The Digital Media Archive was launched in March 2003 to make local history materials from member libraries' special collections available to the public in digital format. In keeping with the cooperative's philosophy of building better resources through sharing, the Digital Media Archive was designed with a regional approach to local history in mind. In addition to sections for each community's history, the archive includes divisions for items relating to regional waterways, regional transportation, and regional military affairs. Some participating libraries have also loaded material in cooperation with their local historical agencies and museums. The result is an unparalleled public repository of historical resources for Macomb County communities and their near neighbors.
The archive currently contains approximately 7,000 digital items, including photographs, documents, maps and videos, and continues to grow. It has been used by local libraries to support research and to answer questions received from media, government officials, students, historical organizations and researchers both local and distant. The archive is hosted and administered by the Suburban Library Cooperative and is freely available for searching via the Internet at www.libcoop.net/archive.
We invite you to visit and experience the rich variety of material that the archive has to offer. Remember to turn off your pop-up blocking software or toolbars while searching the archive, as most pop-up blockers prevent archive images from opening when retrieved.
