Mount Clemens Public Library and the Macomb County Genealogy Group are pleased to announce an update to the Macomb County Funeral Home Records Master Index. The latest version adds over 30,000 entries, doubling the size of the index to a total of 66,538 names. Added with this update are records for the Bell Funeral Home, formerly of Birmingham. (The Bell record books are currently at the bindery and will be available on the shelves in about a month.) Researchers should note that, although we are working with records held by Macomb County funeral homes, over the years many of these businesses have absorbed or merged with funeral homes in the adjacent counties of Oakland and Wayne. As a result, our "Macomb" index includes records from the entire Detroit area, as well as records of funerals of individuals from out-of-state. As always, our thanks go out to Brenda Miller and Karen Rogers, who established this collection and continue to direct the project, spending untold hours in transcribing records and working with various funeral homes to make records accessible. We also thank Geraldine Carrick for transcribing the Bell records, and Barry Hamilton and the staff of William R. Hamilton Funeral Home for making the records available to us.
