Play Ball!

OK, so the Tigers aren't off to the best start this baseball season. Fortunately, they are not the only game in town! The Mount Clemens Regulars, a vintage baseball team, are preparing for the start of their season, playing the gentleman's game of old. Visit the team web site to learn more about vintage baseball rules and to see the Regulars' 2008 schedule.

On the library shelves, you'll find some great books about the early days of baseball, when semi-professional teams could be found in many small towns, including Mount Clemens. Take a look at these titles:

But Didn't We Have Fun?: An Informal History of Baseball's Pioneer Era, 1843-1870, by Peter Morris. (796.357 MOR)
Baseball Fever: Early Baseball in Michigan, by Peter Morris (796.357 MOR)
Minor League Baseball Towns of Michigan: Adrian to Ypsilanti, the Teams and the Ballparks of the Wolverine State From the 1880s to the Present, by Marc Okkonen. (769.357 OKK)

For more information about the early days of baseball in our town, read the article Baseball in Mount Clemens on the local history page of the library's web site.
